A HARARE man, Simbarashe Muzanenhamo, was arrested on Monday for bashing his wife after mistaking a spice sachet for a used condom. Simbarashe, who confirmed he was drunk at the time of the incident, confronted his wife, Fungisai Mutsambi, 23, while she was attending to their twin boys. In a fit of rage, he used his belt to strike her repeatedly after seeing what he believed to be evidence of betrayal.
“After being away for some time, I returned to find something that looked like a used condom in the car,” Simbarashe told H-Metro. “When I asked her about it, she responded disrespectfully, which only fuelled my anger. Fungisai filed a police report, leading to his arrest.
He has been trying to persuade his wife to withdraw the police report she filed. “My husband jumped to conclusions over a piece of paper torn from a spice sachet,” she said. “His anger overshadowed everything and I was ruthlessly assaulted with his trouser belt all over my body.” “I did not cheat on him, as he claimed. We should be celebrating our two-year-old twins together, not dealing with this violence.” Simbarashe is known to be an aide to a local traditional healer.
