A 29-YEAR-OLD man from Mataishe Village, Chief Muusha, in Chimanimani, was found hanging from a tree on Friday, after going missing overnight. Acting police spokesperson for Manicaland, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, said officers from Chimanimani Police Station attended the scene. He said Kudakwashe Muchirawetu’s body was found hanging from a Mugwatigwati tree near his home.
Preliminary investigations so far indicate no sign of foul play. Asst Insp Chinyoka said the body was discovered by villagers who had mobilised to search for Muchirawetu after he failed to return home the previous day. According to the police, Muchirawetu was employed as a general worker by a 79-year-old villager, Victor Mugebe.
On Thursday, February 12, at around 8am, Mugebe is said to have instructed Muchirawetu to remove weeds in a maize field. Later that afternoon, at around 3pm, Mugebe went to check out on him but could not locate him in the field. However, concern grew later that night when Muchirawetu’s wife, Ethel Masungise (32), visited Mugebe’s home at around 10pm to report that her husband had not returned home.

She returned the following morning, at around 8am, and advised Mugebe that Muchirawetu was still missing. This prompted Mugebe to mobilise fellow villagers to conduct a search for the missing man. The search ended at around noon when Muchirawetu’s lifeless body was found hanging from a tree near the village. The matter was reported to Shinja Police Base, in Nyanyadzi.
