The state-owned company REVIMO (Mozambique Road Network) has announced that it needs 42 million US dollars to build infrastructures aimed at reducing road traffic along Maputo Ring Road. According to Sérgio Nhancale, REVIMO spokesperson, interviewed by the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the road traffic is highly registered at the roundabouts on the Maputo Ring Road, especially those located on the National Road Number 204 (EN204), Albazine, CMC, and Intaka. “We have two proposals, one of which would be to build a level intersection, which would require the opening of both left and right turn lanes.

The intersection would have traffic lights in the middle, operating in three phases, to allow vehicles to circulate more flexibly in the roundabouts. The second proposal is to build an unlevel intersection. This means that vehicles traveling along the EN204 will have continuous flow passing over the roundabout, and those coming from other roads will pass underneath”, he said.

The study, the spokesperson said, points out that each of the three roundabouts would require 14 million dollars, totaling 42 million dollars. However, in the short and medium term, REVIMO would not be in a position to finance the works from its own funds.
