NewsSportsBy Kuda Matizanadzo and Nigel PfundeSri Lanka- The Zimbho payoffline championed by the Zimbabwe Touriam Authority has instilled a spirit of patriotism and saw the national cricket team (Chevrons) through to the Super 8 of the T20 World cup without bowling a ball after their deciding match against Ireland was washed out on Tuesday due to persistent rains in Sri Lanka.Needing just a point to secure their place in the knockout phase of the tournament, the Chevrons booked their place after their match against Ireland was washed out, earning the Chevrons a precious point to march on to a historic super 8 for the first time at T20 World Cuptournaments.The last time Zimbabwe left a lasting impressiion was at the 1999 ODI World Cup tournament in England where they finished fifth inspired by the king of reverse sweep, Andy Flower and Neil Johnson.With hosts Sri Lanka already through after defeating Australia in Monday’s group B match, it was now left to the Chevrons-Ireland match to decide who would join the hosts in the super 8.Zimbabwe sitting on 4 points knew that only a victory would book their spot in the knockout phase of the tournament.Both Ireland and Australia were on two points and needed Ireland to defeat Zimbabwe to make the group open going into the final group matches.However, mother nature smiled on the Chevrons and made sure they would sail through without playing a ball as the match was washed out due to rain.This was a remarkable achievement by the Chevrons who went into the tournament as underdogs, pitted against perrenial heavyweightts, Australia (number 2 ranked T20 team in the world) and hosts Sri Lanka.The Chevrons sent a statement of intent in their first two matches against Oman and Australia, posting heavy wins in both.Not since the Afcon 2004 qualifiers when the whole nation has held its breath waiting for results from elsewhere had this sports crazed nation been this close to holding its breath again.The nature in which the Chevrons qualified might not be the way the fans had hoped for, but just like 2004;
