The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, met on Saturday (14 February) in the Ethiopian capital with the President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Abdullah Almusaibeeh, to plan a new phase of financial cooperation focused on climate resilience and strengthening basic social services in Mozambique. The meeting took place in Addis Ababa, where both parties reviewed the state of relations between the bank and the Mozambican government, and outlined strategies to facilitate new investments aimed at improving the living conditions of the population. Speaking to the press after the audience, Almusaibeeh described the meeting as productive and assured that there are no substantive disputes between the parties.
“Today we had a productive meeting with His Excellency President Daniel Chapo. We discussed issues between BADEA and Mozambique. In reality, there are no problems, only some challenges.
We spoke with His Excellency the President, and we will act accordingly,” he said. Among the priority topics was the response to the impacts of natural disasters affecting the country. The BADEA official confirmed the institution’s willingness to mobilise resources for reconstruction.

“We also spoke about our contribution regarding the disaster that occurred in Mozambique. We will finance various projects related to this matter,” he stated, underlining the bank’s commitment to supporting government efforts in mitigating humanitarian crises. According to Almusaibeeh, the guidance provided by the Head of State will serve as the basis for implementing the agreed initiatives.
“We listened to the instructions and guidance of His Excellency the President, and we will work based on them. Our technical teams will meet shortly to develop several initiatives for the benefit of the Mozambican people,” he said, emphasising the intention to accelerate new projects. The meeting also addressed the need to ensure tangible results for communities, with particular focus on social infrastructure and local development.
“His Excellency the President made it clear that many actions are needed for the benefit of the population, and we will support them in this regard,” he added. The parties also discussed the management of previous financial commitments. “We also debated old debts and how we will resolve them,” the official said, signalling mutual understanding to regularise liabilities and unblock new lines of credit. For the next phase, BADEA plans to direct financing towards areas considered strategic.
