An intelligence-driven operation in Limpopo has led to the seizure of dagga worth an estimated R2.6 million after suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot. Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the operation unfolded on Saturday, February 14, at about 4.30 pm. Police members of the Waterberg district police, Waterberg Rural Safety and private security companies acted on information about three vehicles transporting dagga along the R33 between Vaalwater and Modimolle in the Waterberg region.
According to Ledwaba, the vehicles, described as a white Toyota Fortuner and two Toyota Hilux GD6 bakkies, were travelling from Gauteng towards Modimolle on the N1 northbound. Police activated an operation and soon spotted vehicles matching the description in Vaalwater. βThe members attempted to stop them, but they sped off,β said Ledwaba.
A lookout was issued with the assistance of private security companies. One charcoal Toyota Hilux bakkie was later intercepted. However, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran into nearby bushes. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered eight bags of dagga fully loaded inside, with an estimated street value of R2.6 million.
