Neytech Solutions chief executive officer Kondwani Mushali has urged learning institutions to adopt electronic learning (e-learning) as a sustainable way of ensuring continuity and access to quality education in an increasingly digital world. He made the call on Friday in Lilongwe during a training for academic staff from Nkhoma University held at Baptist College. Mushali said Aflit, a learning management system developed by Neytech Solutions, was created locally to address gaps in existing e-learning platforms and to meet the specific needs of Malawian and African learning institutions.
“Aflit was built in Malawi, for Malawi and Africa. Many institutions rely on open-source systems that are limited in functionality. With Aflit, we are bridging that gap by offering a more interactive, secure and flexible e-learning solution that goes beyond simply uploading PDFs,” he said.
Mushali noted that the Covid-19 pandemic exposed the vulnerability of the education sector, adding that e-learning enables teaching and learning to continue even when physical classrooms are inaccessible. “Learning should not be confined within classroom walls. With e-learning, learning institutions can reach students anywhere, including those who are working, based far from campus or even outside the country,” he said.

In his remarks, the university’s deputy dean in the Faculty of Commerce Aristotle Gowera said the institution is preparing to roll out open, distance and e-learning programmes to expand access to higher education. “Globally, e-learning is the way forward. It enables universities to reach more students using the same infrastructure while offering flexibility to those unable to attend physical classes due to work or distance,” he said.
Gowera said the university is working towards meeting requirements set by the National Council for Higher Education for approval to offer online programmes. Gowera commended Neytech Solutions for collaborating with the university to develop a system tailored to its academic needs.
