Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) has officially introduced Voice over LTE (VoLTE), an advanced solution that enables voice calls to be transmitted over the long-term evolution (LTE) network, also known as 4G. Traditionally, the LTE network has been used exclusively for data and internet services only, however with the implementation of VoLTE, customers can now enjoy enhanced voice call quality that leverages this high-speed network. This next-generation technology brings several significant improvements to the calling experience.

In addition to superior sound quality, VoLTE provides faster call connection times, eliminating unnecessary delays when initiating or receiving calls. Overall, the introduction of VoLTE ensures a more dependable and seamless calling experience for customers. BTC as the first mobile network operator in Botswana to introduce VoLTE, continues to lead the market by reshaping expectations around voice communication and customer experience.

With VoLTE, customers can talk and browse the internet simultaneously and send messages without dropped calls or interruptions. Customers simply continue to make calls the same way they always have, while enjoying a superior experience. BTC provides the service at no additional cost and requires no applications, downloads, or changes in calling behaviour.

BTC Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Mike Siachitema, described VoLTE as “one among plenty of planned steps towards improving the customer experience for our BTC customers,” noting that this is one way of showcasing BTC’s commitment to transforming everyday communication. “We want our customers to experience a new level of clarity, speed, and reliability when they make a voice call,” he said.

“VoLTE delivers crystal-clear HD voice quality, near-instant call setup, and allows customers to stay connected online while on a call; all provided at the same voice and SMS rates they are used to”, added Mr. Siachitema. Siachitema further highlighted that VoLTE enhances the roaming experience across Africa, delivering premium voice quality even beyond Botswana’s borders.

According to Mr. Siachitema, “poor call quality should not be accepted as normal. VoLTE is about redefining what a voice call should sound and feel like in a modern digital world; that is clearer audio, faster connections, and fewer drop calls,” he added.

To access the service, customers must have a BTC 4G/LTE SIM card and a compatible smartphone. Activating the service is simple; open the phone’s settings, select mobile network, enable VoLTE calls, and toggle Airplane Mode on and off. Once enabled, customers can immediately begin enjoying VoLTE-enabled calls. In a world that increasingly depends on reliable communication, VoLTE ensures that when a call connects, it stays connected, and every word is heard clearly.
