An Ethiopian man narrowly escaped death after being shot multiple times today, February 9, at Perry’s Bridge in Hazyview. According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the victim has been identified as Daniel Tehebo. It is alleged that the suspects followed the victim from his previous location.

After Tehebo parked his car and entered the restaurant, two armed suspects, who were driving a Volkswagen Polo, exited their vehicle and approached him while he was drinking coffee and opened fire. “Tehebo sustained gunshot wounds to his hand and stomach during the shooting. When the suspects realised the guards were retaliating, they fled the scene in their vehicle,” said Ndubane.

Ndubane added that 15 empty cartridges were recovered at the scene. Paramedics were summoned, and the victim was rushed to Nelspruit Mediclinic for emergency treatment. The motive behind the shooting is currently unknown, and the suspects remain at large. Police have opened a case of attempted murder and are appealing to the public for information that could lead to an arrest, urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit details via the MySAPS App.
