ZANU PF chairman for Mashonaland East Province, Cde Daniel Garwe, has urged people from Chikomba district to rally behind the party’s candidates in the forthcoming local authority by-elections for Wards 7 and 12 in the district. Cde Garwe, who is also the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, made the call while officiating during the campaign launch held at Kadungure Business Centre in Ward 7, Chikomba district, over the weekend. Two seats, which are in Wards 7 and 12 are vacant, and already, the ruling party has conducted primary elections where candidates who emerged victorious are now being supported with all resources to ensure they win in the by-elections.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has since gazetted February 21, 2026, as the poll day. “As you know, we have already done our primary elections in these two wards and now we have our candidates, Cde Fortunate Chakwanda, who will represent ZANU PF in Ward 7 and Cde Pardon Mudzimu, who will represent us in Ward 12,” he said. “We are here today to launch our campaign in Ward 7.
So Cde Chakwanda is our candidate and we are appealing to the people of Ward 7 to vote for her. Let us make sure our revolutionary party win.” Chikomba West Member of Parliament Cde Tatenda Mavetera said ZANU PF is the ideal party to vote into office based on the party’s traceable record in terms of people-oriented development. “We have seen a lot of development in Chikomba district and this ward was not left behind.

Roads are being upgraded, clinics and schools are being built so that people can access critical services closer and we want to thank President Mnangagwa for all this,” she said. “I want to urge you all, who are present and those who are not here, to vote for the ZANU PF candidate. I know the people here love their party, ZANU PF and I have no doubt that the seat will remain in ZANU PF.” Cde Isaac Tasikani, the provincial youth chairman for ZANU PF Mashonaland East, urged youths to be at the forefront in campaigning for the party.
Cde Tasikani said the youth must come out in their numbers on the polling day and ensure the seat remains in ZANU PF. Cde Aplonia Munzverengwi, Women’s League provincial chairperson for Mashonaland East, also made a clarion call for women not to be left behind when it comes to campaigning as well as voting. The candidate, Cde Chikwanda, said she is optimistic of resoundingly winning in the election. She went on to say she will work around the clock to ensure development remains her top priority, once she wins.
