FCB Nyasa Bullets have made a preliminary shortlist of 18 coaches from almost 50 who applied for the club’s coaching job. The People’s Team acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga said in an interview yesterday that from the 18, five are local coaches. But he still kept a tight lid on the identities of the shortlisted applicants.

“We now have 18 based on preliminary shortlisting. Otherwise the club will further scrutinise the list to come up with the fewest number that can be interviewed,” he said. On when they plan to conduct the interviews, Chigoda said: “The technical committee will guide on interviews.” The closing date for receiving applications, according to the advert which the club flighted on its Facebook page, was February 2.

Zambian Wedson Nyirenda, interim coach Gilbert Chirwa and former Flames mentor Ernest Mtawali are among the coaches who submitted applications. According to the advert, among others, the successful candidate will be required to provide technical leadership and performance oversight across all the club’s teams and ensuring alignment with the club’s football philosophy. The coach will also be expected to establish clear player development pathways, performance bechmarks and succession plans, work closely with club management, player recruitment, talent identification and long-term technical planning.
