Rehabilitation of Solomon Mujuru Road begins as Government addresses Harare’s roads

The rehabilitation of Solomon Mujuru Road (formerly Kirkman Road) began this Thursday as the Government has commenced rehabilitation work on some of the major roads in and around Harare. The works on Solomon Mujuru Road are being conducted from N Richards Turn-Off to Sanganayi Inn Junction. Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, along with some engineers and Government officials, is touring the road to assess the progress made so far along the route in Dzivarasekwa.

Earlier this week, the Minister also led a delegation to evaluate several roads in the capital. Accompanied by senior officials and engineers, Minister Mhona toured roads in Braeside, Arcadia, Craneborne, Hatfield, Waterfalls, Sunningdale, Houghton Park, and Southerton, among other areas. Following the assessment, the Government has begun working on some of the roads.

Some require reconstruction while others need rehabilitation. “A section of Solomon Mujuru Road – from N Richards Turn-Off to Sanganayi Inn Junction – will be partially closed all day on Thursday, 5 February 2026, for road rehabilitation works. “Those travelling are encouraged to plan, use alternative routes, and allow extra travel time.

Your patience and cooperation will help us build better infrastructure for everyone, leaving no one and no place behind,” the Ministry said. This development comes as the Government has made significant progress in rehabilitating roads under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme. Through the ERRP2, President Mnangagwa has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to building a modern, interconnected transport network that positions Zimbabwe as a regional logistics hub of choice.
