Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Minister Lieutenant General (Rtd) Ambassador Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe has appointed a new board for the National Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ), effective February 1. Retired Justice Maphios Cheda has been appointed chairperson of the board, alongside Ms Chelsea Sian Evans, Ms Tsungirirai Hedwick Banga, Dr Tagarira Mutenga, and Mr Takasununguka Ziki.
Ms Evans and Ms Banga were re-appointed, while Dr Mutenga, Mr Ziki and Justice Cheda are new appointees. Announcing the appointments, Minister Sanyatwe said the new board reflects the Government’s commitment to sound corporate governance and effective leadership in public cultural institutions. “This appointment is a strategic move underscoring the ministry’s commitment to ensure inclusive and transparent governance in the sector,” he said.
The minister said the board will serve a four-year term ending on January 31, 2030, and will play a critical role in steering the National Gallery of Zimbabwe towards the fulfilment of its statutory mandate. He said the appointments were made in strict adherence to the provisions of Section 11 of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act [Chapter 10:31] and in full compliance with the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Act [Chapter 25:09]. “This signals the Government’s unwavering commitment to fostering good governance and effective leadership within public entities,” Minister Sanyatwe.
