MASHONALAND Central Province has taken an innovative step toward social transformation, leveraging the emerging sport of FootGolf to combat drug and substance abuse while simultaneously driving agro-tourism and healthy living. Speaking on the sidelines of a FootGolf tournament at the Stone and Water Resort in Mvurwi on Sunday Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo, hailed the province as a pioneer in integrating sports with community development. Minister Magomo said that the sport is playing a critical role in safeguarding the youth.

“Through providing a constructive and physically demanding outlet, the province is actively steering young people away from the scourge of narcotics that has affected many communities. “Such sports tourism activities help to fight drug and substance abuse. This was evidenced by the number of youths who participated; if they were not here, they might have been engaged in immoral activities.” Minister Magomo said that the initiative aligns perfectly with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), showcasing the province’s success in infrastructure development and devolution-led growth.

The ability to host participants from other provinces, he said, is a testament to Mashonaland Central’s growing profile as a premier sports tourism destination. The Minister also praised the venue for representing a unique fusion of the province’s economic strengths. “We embrace and accommodate every sector of the community and the economy.
