BAZ said all broadcasting and digital content consumed within Zimbabwe falls under the countryโ€™s legal and constitutional framework, regardless of the platform used. The Authority referred to Section 61 of the Constitution, which provides for freedom of expression, but stressed that this freedom must be exercised responsibly and with respect for the rights of others as outlined in Section 86 of the Constitution. The Authority further highlighted that the Broadcasting Services Act [Chapter 12:06] gives children the right to protection from content that is harmful to their moral and psychological development, with the best interests of the child being paramount.

It also cited the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act [Chapter 10:04], which prohibits the dissemination of content that is indecent, obscene, offensive, or harmful to public morals. โ€œThe Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe will not permit the misuse of digital platforms in a manner that violates the Constitution, national laws, or the collective moral standards of the nation,โ€ said Acting Chief Executive Officer Eng. Matthias Chakanyuka.

He reminded broadcasters and content creators of their legal and ethical responsibility to ensure that their material complies with Zimbabwean laws and respects the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially children.
