Born and raised in the vibrant townships of Harare, Nhendere discovered his passion for music at a young age, drawing inspiration from the soulful rhythms of Zimbabwean mbira traditions and the electrifying energy of global guitar legends like Jimi Hendrix and Zimbabwe’s own Thomas Mapfumo. Self-taught on the guitar, he honed his craft through street performances and local gigs, blending traditional African sounds with contemporary rock, jazz, and blues to create a signature style that feels both ancestral and futuristic.
His breakthrough moment came in 2016 at the 20th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood, USA. There, Sylent Nqo achieved the extraordinary: he became the first Zimbabwean to win the Senior Solo Instrumental Grand Champion award. During that iconic competition, he also secured three gold medals and three silver medals, captivating judges and audiences with virtuosic performances that showcased his lightning-fast fingerwork, emotional depth, and innovative fusion of genres.
