Six-year-old drowns in Chasefu shallow pit

A six-year-old boy from Sinyota Village in Magodi Chiefdom, Chasefu District, has drowned in a shallow pit after attempting to swim with friends on his way home from school. The incident occurred on January 29, 2026 when the boy, who was the first to dive into the pit after removing his school uniform, failed to resurface.

His friends rushed to the village for help, but he was retrieved lifeless. Mr Mweemba added that police inspected the body and ruled out foul play.
