THE National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) has strongly refuted allegations by the Handball Association of Zambia that government was responsible for the poor performance of the Men’s Senior National Handball Team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Kigali, Rwanda. In a statement issued by NSCZ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sombwa Musunsa, the Council said it had noted with concern a statement released by the Handball Association of Zambia on January 27, 2026, which was published in a privately owned newspaper and widely circulated online. Musunsa said the Association had “unfairly placed blame on government for the Men’s Senior National Handball Team’s dismal performance” at the continental tournament, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.
