Youthful visual artist Chimwemwe Luwanda makes a giant leap in his artistry, bringing an exhibition titled Nature’s Palette at Lotus Hotel in Blantyre. The exhibition, to be hosted by gospel musician Chigo Grace, starts today and will run until March 15 2024. Specialising in fluid abstract art, Luwanda’s creations are a testament to his ability to capture the fluidity and essence of his subjects, transcending conventional boundaries of form and colour.
Having honed much of his skills at Jacaranda School for Orphans in Chigumula, a school that has opened up to give learners the liberty to explore the various art forms and utilise their talents, Luwanda is excited to finally showcase his talent to a broader audience. “This exhibition is titled ‘Nature’s Palette’ because it is not just about showcasing art but rather it is a celebration of the beauty and importance of nature for future generations,” he said. Luwanda’s affection for art is so much unfathomable such that he wants to mature it and take it to the international stage and represent Malawi.
Through the exhibition which will also be spiced up by music from singer and guitarist Annemarie Quinn, Luwanda, aims to highlight harmony and diversity found in “our natural world, urging viewers to appreciate and preserve it for posterity”. “As an artist, my work is not just about creating beautiful visuals but also about challenging perceptions and igniting conversations. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to see the world through different lens and appreciate the power of artistic expression,” Luwanda, who is also an actor, said.
