At least 15 people were injured in a high-impact collision after a taxi crashed through a wall and into a shed at the corner of Sweetwaters and Lynwood Road, Pietermaritzburg on Saturday morning. Craig Botha, spokesperson for KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, said that on arrival, emergency first responders discovered that a taxi with passengers had veered off the roadway, careening through a boundary wall and into a shed on a private residential property. “The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the structural integrity of the building and left the taxi wedged within the debris.
”Paramedics immediately initiated a triage protocol to manage the high volume of casualties. A comprehensive assessment revealed a total of 15 patients who had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious,” he said. Botha added that Msunduzi Fire Department and police were on-site to assist with scene safety and the extraction of passengers from the wreckage. “After being stabilised at the scene, all 15 patients were transported to local hospitals for definitive medical care.” He added that the cause of the accident is not yet known.
