Although kidnapping incidents are currently more prevalent in Pretoria, residents across Johannesburg, including the West Rand, are urged not to assume they are safe. Krugersdorp Newsreportsthat security company Fidelity ADT has alerted residents in The Orchards to a concerning rise in kidnapping incidents over recent weeks, warning that similar crime patterns can spread rapidly between areas. “According to information received, these incidents appear to involve suspects following residents home late at night, between 22:00 and midnight, abducting them, and then demanding ransom from their families,” said Charnel Hattingh, the head of marketing and communications at Fidelity ADT.

Criminals adapt quickly, and similar tactics have been seen spreading to new areas.” She urged residents across the province to remain vigilant and take proactive safety precautions. Fidelity ADT confirmed that it is working closely with affected communities and continues to monitor the situation. Increased patrols and visibility have been implemented in high-risk areas where possible.
