Dendera music lives on: Sulu Chimbetu readies new album

Respected Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu has pledged to keep the Dendera music torch alive with some quality and mesmerising music productions coupled with the highest level of professionalism in his approach to the arts business Speaking to Standard Style, the firebrand musician who has produced some timeless hits such as Sean Timba, Alice Mbewe and Nyarara, among others, said he was duty bound to keep the legacy safe and going “We are on a mission to sustain and revitalise Dendera music and I am happy that we have recorded commendable progress since the passing on of my idol and father, Simon Chimbetu,” said Sulumani “The goal is to keep the Dendera music brand at the very top and I want to promise my fans and all music stakeholders the best experience possible

“We are not leaving anything to chance in that regard and we are embodying the highest levels of professionalism as we go about our business.”

Sulumani, who is credited for keeping his late father’s music outfit afloat since he took over, said he owes his success to respect for his fans, band members, arts stakeholders as well as his critics “It’s not easy to take over from an industry giant like my father and I am happy that years on, we have continued to entertain with new music as well as taking fans down memory lane with some perfect performances and renditions of the master of song’s hits,” he said “I believe the longevity we have achieved thus far is thanks to respect for our fans, the band members who are the core of our existence as well as all the important arts stakeholders including media, promoters as well as the corporate world We are because they are and we value that symbiotic relationship.”

While some critics have also come with their own input and ideas regarding how the band should do business, Sulumani welcomed their standpoints highlighting that they can never achieve without criticism

“Criticism is the breakfast of champions and I am happy that we have been able to perfect our art thanks to the criticism both negative and positive from our fans, “ he said “I take it that criticism means we are doing something hence true wisdom is in responding to that criticism with a willing heart so that you grow from it “We want to win over all the fence sitters and those who see us otherwise through a strong investment in excellence both on and off the stage.”

As he readies his new album, Sulumani said their doors remain open to all stakeholders that want to support and work with them “We are a brand for the people and I believe Dendera music has got a special place in the hearts of many,” he said

“As we work on releasing the new album this week, we are inviting everyone who wants to work with us to come on board so that together we change and own the game.
