Two young swimming stars will be swimming the Midmar Mile next month to raise funds for the Pietermaritzburg Animal Rescue and Rehome (Parr). It will be Epworth School pupil Telana Broodryk’s second Midmar Mile, a testament to her love for swimming. The 10-year-old developed her passion for the sport alongside her father, Fredwin Broodryk.
St Charles College pupil Miguel do Vale (12), who is in Grade Six, will also be swimming to raise funds for the organisation. The youngest of four children, Miguel enjoys a range of sports including hockey, tennis, squash, cricket and rugby. Their coach, Dr Pieta Erasmus has been coaching the duo during open-water training sessions at the dam.
Broodryk has also enjoyed the support of her beloved dog, Anna. Anna was adopted from Parr, and Telana’s bond with her reflects her deep love for animals. “This is why she proudly supports Parr, helping to raise awareness for the rescue and rehoming of animals in need,” said her mother, Carien Broodryk. During her first fundraising swim for the rescue and rehabilitation organisation, Telana raised R7 275 and received an award from her school for her efforts.
