The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Monday engaged stakeholders to review the performance of Team Malawi at the African Union Sports Council (Ausc) Region 5 Youth Games in Windhoek, Namibia. MNCS personnel—together with officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc) and Team Managers from all the 14 sporting codes who travelled to Namibia— convened at Sigelege Hotel in Salima District. MNCS Chief Executive Officer Henry Kamata said the meeting was aimed at evaluating Team Malawi’s performance at the 11th edition of the Games, which ran from July 4 to 13.
Kamata described the move as vital for both the Athletes and sports federations. “We made history by scooping seven gold medals for the first time ever in the history of the Region 5 Games. We cannot sit back and relax.
“We needed to reflect on what we did better and where we did not so that we focus on the next step as we continue with our agenda, which is premised on the long-term athlete development plan,” Kamata said. Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports Jameson Ndalama hailed the initiative, saying it would help perfect Team Malawi’s performance. “Failure to plan is preparing to fail.
