An angry crowd protested outside the Howick Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday where a local man appeared on two charges of attempted murder in a shooting that the crowd deemed to have been a racist attack on two young men. According to Andiswa Duma, an aunt of the two men, they were shot multiple times in Acacia Road, in Howick West, on Sunday. “One of them sustained gunshot wounds to his arm, while the other was shot at the back of his leg,” said Duma.

Their families have spoken out against Khan being released on bail. Speaking toThe Witnessoutside court, Duma alleged that the shooting happened while the two men were walking along the road near Khan’s home on the way back from a shop.
They had an altercation with a boy in Acacia Road and, after the matter had been resolved Khan walked out of his home and shouted at them. She added that both men were seriously injured and lost a significant amount of blood. Their mother, who was also present in court, was visibly traumatised and unable to speak.
