United Party for National Development (UPND) Deputy National Spokesperson, Evis Nkandu, has reiterated the ruling party’s commitment to peaceful elections as political parties wrap up campaigns ahead of the Kasama mayoral by-election. Nkandu said the UPND remained aligned with President Hakainde Hichilema’s “clear and firm stance against violence”, emphasising the need for tolerance, unity, and respect for democratic processes across the country. “As we head into polling day, we call upon all stakeholders and citizens to maintain peace, exercise their democratic right responsibly, and contribute to an orderly and credible electoral process in the best interest of Kasama and Zambia as a whole,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Nkandu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact with residents across various wards and communities during the campaign period, noting that the party shared its message of renewed hope, inclusive development, and a collective vision for a better Kasama. “The receptiveness, enthusiasm, and constructive dialogue demonstrated by the people of Kasama reaffirm our collective commitment to democratic participation and good governance,” he said. As the UPND concludes its campaign activities ahead of the January 29, 2026 by-election, Nkandu extended sincere appreciation to the people of Kasama for their warmth, time, and hospitality.
He also paid tribute to President Hichilema for his unwavering dedication to ensuring a peaceful, free, and fair electoral environment for all participants.
