Port Natal bowlers have returned from the 2026 Quadrangular with confidence high after topping five of the eight sectional logs in a tournament hosted by KZN Country Bowls.
The competition once again highlighted the depth and consistency that has become synonymous with PNB. In Newcastle, the men delivered a commanding performance to emerge as overall victors, finishing with a resounding 106 points, well clear of KZN Country Bowls on 69. It was a triumph built on strength across the board, with the Men’s Open, Veterans, and President’s sides all winning their respective sections.
The B side came agonisingly close to a clean sweep, finishing second overall, just 1.5 points behind the NIBA. Winners of the Women’s B in Dundee – Front – Leanne Marsh, Linda Ellis, Delysia Mitchley (manager), Linda Tolmay. Back – Bridget White, Hilary Lindsay, Odette van Zyl, Cindy Roos.

Meanwhile, the ladies, competing in Dundee, produced a spirited and competitive showing to secure second place overall. The Women’s Open side was edged into third place on shot difference. The B and President’s sides both claimed sectional honours, while the Veterans finished a strong second behind KBA.
When the scores were tallied, the accumulated performances saw the PNB women deservedly take second spot overall. Attention now turns to a busy and important weekend on the local calendar. On Saturday morning, the PNB AGM will be held at Berea Bowling Club, a key gathering as the district reflects on achievements and sets its course for the year ahead.
Then, on Sunday, competitive focus returns to the greens at Wentworth Bowling Club, where the 16 teams who have qualified for the PNB Men’s and Women’s Pairs quarter-finals will assemble. With play getting underway at 8.30am, anticipation is building as the 2026 district champions prepare to be crowned. Beyond district competition, Port Natal will once again be strongly represented on the national stage.
Ten PNB bowlers are gearing up for departure to the Bowls South Africa Masters, hosted at Wingate Park Country Club in Pretoria from February 6-8. Their selection is a testament to dedication, perseverance, and commitment, having earned recognition as the top singles players in their respective divisions. In the Men’s Open section, Wayne Roberts of Hillcrest Bowling Club will be aiming to repeat his golden performance from the 2024 Masters, while Westville BC’s Paul White adds further firepower.
The Women’s Open field will feature Natalie Botha of Stella Park BC and Hillcrest’s Michelle Gerber among the 16 contenders. In the Veterans section, Stella Park’s John Connellan will look to improve on his 2024 silver medal, while Westville BC’s Arnie Muscat and Roger Boulle chase Masters medals of their own. Stella Park’s Glenda Matthews will be hoping to add a fourth Masters gold to her impressive collection from 2019, 2022, and 2024. In the Under-30s, Hillary’s Keegan Bauristhene will seek to better his 2025 bronze, while twin brother Jarred, from Westville BC, makes his second appearance on the Masters stage.
