A young Durban couple are amongst 11 people who died in a series of separate road accidents across KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend. Chatsworth couple, Sashan and Nikyla Naidoo were killed on Saturday night on the M1 near the Westcliff offramp after their vehicle rolled over railway lines. ALS Paramedics Spokesperson Garreth Jamieson said the accident was the second incident in the area on Saturday evening.

“Just after 10:30pm on the M1 eastbound before the Westcliff off-ramp, two people were killed. “Paramedics arrived to find a single vehicle had rolled several times and landed on railway lines. Both occupants had been ejected and were found metres from the wreckage,” said Jamieson.

“A man believed to be in his 30s was declared dead at the scene. A woman in her 20s sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.” Garrith Jamieson said his teams responded to several serious incidents between Friday evening and Sunday morning, especially in Durban. “Just after 8:30pm on Friday, ALS Paramedics responded to a serious crash on the M4 northbound, before the Broadway off-ramp,” said Jamieson.

“A single motorcyclist had lost control and crashed. Paramedics found the rider, a man believed to be in his late 40s, had sustained fatal injuries. There was nothing paramedics could do and he was declared dead at the scene.” Just after 5am on Saturday, one person was killed and three others were injured in an early morning crash at the intersection of Prince Alfred Street and Monty Naicker Road in the Durban CBD.

“Two vehicles collided at the junction before one overturned and came to rest on its roof. Multiple casualties were found and additional ambulances and advanced life support paramedics were dispatched,” said Jamieson.
