Have you ever wondered why a gadget suddenly makes an appearance in your life and becomes the most useful tool in your kitchen? I discovered the spatula (some of you will probably think “how dumb” to write about something so small that has been around for decades) only recently and simply love it! I asked one of my daughters if she used a spatula and the response was: “Of course, Mom.” So how did I miss it?

Just like the spatula, there are some things in our lives that go unnoticed, and sometimes when we make the discovery, it’s too late. It is the same with the people in our lives; often we realise their value long after they have gone. Do you have a long-lost sibling or parent you haven’t seen in years, and wish to meet again?

Go on and mend that broken relationship before it’s too late. Sometimes when life gets in the way, we even miss out on the incredible details of nature. The clouds for example, have you noticed how they resemble cotton wool as they form funny faces and strange objects?

Even the melodious singing of the birds; one would think they mock us humans, and think they are superior because they can fly. The soothing waves of the ocean, are so calming and therapeutic, but also alluring and frightening. There are so many phenomenal discoveries all around us, all we need to do is focus our senses, and appreciate the ability to use them.

Just like I discovered the spatula very late in life, if you find that something special that you missed along the way, no matter how small and insignificant it might be, hold on to it. As Rumi once said: “Maybe you are searching among the branches, for what only appears in the roots.”
