Thousands of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters gathered in East London on Friday morning in a show of support for party leader Julius Malema, whose court matter remains ongoing. The gathering was held ahead of Friday’s court proceedings, which relate to Malema’s conviction on firearm-related charges stemming from an incident at an EFF rally in 2018. The matter before court on Friday relates to pre-sentencing proceedings. Party officials have maintained that Malema is innocent of wrongdoing and have framed the case as politically motivated.
