Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has called for the name of KwaZulu-Natal to be changed to KwaZulu, removing the “Natal” component. The King was speaking during the 147th commemoration of the Battle of Isandlwana, where Zulu regiments under King Cetshwayo kaMpande defeated British forces led by Lieutenant-General Lord Chelmsford in 1879. The annual commemoration was held at the historic Isandlwana battlefield in Nquthu, within the Umzinyathi District Municipality.

The event was attended by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, dignitaries from across the continent and the world, and representatives of the British military, who gathered to honour the significance of the battle.
