Two more learners from the horrific crash that took place on Monday morning on the R553 outside Vanderbijlpark, involving a Toyota Quantum scholar transport taxi and a tipper lorry, died in hospital in the early hours of this morning. Sedibeng Sterreportsthat the minibus was transporting children to various schools, including El-Shaddai Christian School, Oliver Lodge Primary School, Vaal Triangle Primary School, Vaal High School and Suncrest High School. The Gauteng Department of Health yesterday confirmed thenames of the initial 12 learners who diedin the crash.
At the time, seven survivors were transported by Gauteng EMS to Sebokeng and Kopanong hospitals. At Sebokeng Hospital, four learners and the minibus taxi driver were admitted. However, this morning police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the 22-year-old scholar transport driver is now facing 14 counts of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving after two more learners died in hospital.
