City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services(EMS) said firefighters were sent to the bank, located at the corner of Ellis and Carnation streets, where evacuation and firefighting operations were immediately initiated. According to EMS media officerXolile Khumalo, all staff members were safely evacuated and accounted for during the operation. The fire was contained, with firefighters remaining on site to conduct damping-down operations to ensure there were no flare-ups.
Smoke was still present in the area as crews continued their work. EMS confirmed that no staff injuries were reported at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, and no further details were immediately available.
