On 23 December 2025, with just days left before the country crossed into 2026, the Botswana and the United States concluded a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) worth US$487 million (about P6.6 billion) under Washington’s “America First Global Health Strategy.” The agreement was signed in Gaborone by Botswana’s Minister of Health Stephen Modise and US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Christopher Gunning. This was done with no prior public announcement, parliamentary debate or consultation with stakeholders such NGOs.
