Two Durban beaches, Country Club and Reunion, have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure due to water quality concerns, the city confirmed in a media release. eThekwini Municipality officials said the decision was taken to protect public health and would remain in place until conditions improve. “The closure is necessary to safeguard public health and will remain in place until water quality improves.
All other beaches are unaffected and will continue to welcome visitors,” the City said. Officials added that beach water quality samples are collected on a weekly basis and that results are made public as soon as they become available. “Beach water quality samples are taken weekly, and results are shared with the public as soon as they become available,” the City said.
These include Point Beach, Umgababa Beach, uShaka Beach, Addington Beach, North Beach, Battery Beach, Thekwini Beach, South Beach, Wedge Beach, Brighton Beach, Doonside Beach, Winkelspruit Beach, Pipeline Beach, Toti Main Beach, Westbrook Beach, Mdloti Main Beach, Anstey’s Beach, Umhlanga Main, Bronze Beach and Laguna Beach. Operating times at all open beaches are from 6 am to 6.30 pm. Beachgoers are urged to adhere to safety signage and updates from the city while the monitoring process continues.
