Man assaults mother in mall, gets arrested

A man was charged with two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following separate incidents involving his girlfriend and his mother. The latest incident occurred on January 16 at the Daveyton Mall, when he allegedly attacked his mother inside a food outlet. According to Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Constable Ntando Ngomane, the victim said she was standing near the food outlet when her son confronted her, questioning why she had provided his photo to the police.

“He allegedly told her that she deserved to be stabbed for giving such information to the police without his consent,” said Ngomane. Fearing for her safety, the woman moved inside the outlet to avoid him, but he followed and began assaulting her. Store employees and security guards intervened and restrained him.

While trying to flee, a knife allegedly fell from his pocket. Ngomane added that the mall incident followed an assault on January 11, during which the suspect allegedly attacked his girlfriend at his mother’s home.When his mother tried to intervene, he reportedly threatened to assault her. The girlfriend opened a case with the police.
