Director In-Charge of Audit under the Auditor General’s Office, Patricia Malaila has urged Provincial Heads of Government Departments to avoid complacency regarding clean Audit reports that the province has been enjoying for the past few years. Speaking in Kabwe District in Central Province during an engagement with Provincial Heads of Government Departments, Ms Malaila emphasized the need for compliance with public financial regulations. Ms Malaila stressed the need for strong financial controls, management and accountability to ensure prudent resource use and enhanced service delivery.
“Do not be complacent with past reports, proactive measures are needed to implement audit recommendations and improve governance. We shall always be on the lookout and once we find issues that require us to report on, we do that,” she said. Meanwhile, Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe emphasized the need for accountability and transparency, advising civil servants not to evade auditors but ensure proper financial management and documentation.
Dr Mwanakampwe advised the Provincial Heads of Government Departments to strive for zero audit queries by upholding transparency and proper use of public resources. “We have a duty to protect and husband those resources efficiently and prudently to the benefit of that child who cannot walk with us,” he said. Dr Mwanakampwe warned heads of departments in the province of serious consequences on non- non-compliance to financial regulations.
