Zion Apostolic Council holds national day of prayer for nation,Govt

Walter Nyamukondiwa in KADOMAThe Zion Apostolic Council of Zimbabwe has reaffirmed the church’s readiness to complement Government efforts in tackling social ills such as drug and substance abuse while praying for peace and development.Church leaders from about 100 denominations making up the Zion Apostolic Council of Zimbabwe gathered in Kadoma for a national day of prayer on Saturday.At least 20 church leaders also graduated with certificates of leadership in their apostolic, pentecostal and Zion denominations.ZACZ president Bishop Edman Asinawake said the church was key in promoting social cohesion.“We find that as a country we are not only fighting drug and substance abuse but our culture has been eroded as well,” said Bishop Asinawake.“As a church we need to step up and pray for our country, it’s leadership, Government, peace and development.”He said the apostolic sects want to actively participate in the mainstream economy and utilise opportunities being availed by Government to uplift the people.Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo hailed ZACZ for praying for the country and its leadership.“Throughout history, the church has been at the forefront in supporting Government, its people and spiritual wellbeing,” she said.“We have received immense support during difficult times, including Cyclone Idai and the Covid pandemic.“We have the ongoing challenge of drug and substance abuse and we know that if the church prays it will soon pass and we are restored as a nation.”She said the church was instrumental in ensuring the peace that is prevailing in the country and shaping values and morality.ZANU PF Kadoma District Coordinating Committee chairperson Cde Langton Mabhanga said the church should take empowerment opportunities being availed by both the Government and the ruling party,” said Cde Mabhanga.“We are inviting the church to join in the economic emancipation drive being ushered by the Second Republic.“We are also calling the Church to contribute economically and be empowered by tapping into the various economic opportunities around them.”Share on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
