Former Western Cape ANC secretary Neville Delport joined the DA. Former ANC Western Cape provincial secretary Neville Delport has denied allegations that he is unlawfully in possession of a party-branded vehicle, following the opening of a criminal case against him theCape Times has reported. Police confirmed that a case of vehicle theft was registered at the Piketberg police station earlier this week.
According to provincial police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala, the complainant alleges Delport removed the vehicle from a garage in Worcester without authorisation and has been using it since July 2025. No arrests have been made, and the matter remains under investigation. The ANC in the Western Cape claims Delport retained the party bakkie despite defecting to the Democratic Alliance in November last year.
Provincial spokesperson Sifiso Mtsweni said Delport had failed to return the vehicle and was now in “unlawful possession” of ANC property. “He has ignored repeated requests to return the bakkie,” said Mtsweni. “The ANC has been left with no choice but to open a criminal case.

Mr Delport’s nostalgia for the ANC has now crossed into criminal conduct. We expect SAPS to act swiftly.” In response, Delport rejected the accusations, calling them politically motivated. Speaking to theCape Timeson Thursday, he insisted the vehicle was not in his possession and accused the ANC of spreading misinformation in retaliation for his defection to the DA.
“I never drove that bakkie. During the Bonnievale by-election, it had mechanical issues and was taken to a mechanic in Worcester by the candidate,” Delport said. “It’s been there for two months.
The bakkie is unroadworthy and the licence disc expired two years ago—what would I even do with it?” Delport also questioned whether the ANC had verified the location of the vehicle before filing charges. “If they’re saying it’s with me, have they checked my house? Have they brought evidence?” he asked.
He claimed the charges were part of an effort to undermine his campaign ahead of a by-election in Graafwater. The ANC and Delport remain at odds over the matter as police continue their investigation.
