Tensions between Orient Heights residents and a neighbouring informal settlement have escalated after repeated illegal electricity connections left households without power for days over the festive period. They said that while illegal connections are periodically removed and repairs carried out, the connections are quickly reinstalled, offering little lasting relief. Among the affected areas are Privet Road, Sukhi Road, Vijay Place, Sirkhod Road, Amod Road and surrounding streets.

Residents also raised concerns about a continuous water leak outside a substation between Sirkhod Road and Amod Road, which they said has been flowing for more than two years. Despite repeated complaints and requests for intervention, the leak has not been repaired. Resident Sunitha Hiralal said the combination of electricity outages, water leaks and overgrown vegetation required urgent attention.

There are multiple issues affecting residents in the area. People are frustrated with ongoing electricity outages caused by illegal connections. There is a water leak where litres of fresh water are being wasted, and overgrown grass has created visibility problems and provides a haven for criminals.
