HARARE – Zimdancehall star Romeo Anthony, better known to fans as Shinsoman, has been found guilty of smoking cannabis after admitting to the offence together with four other men at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Anthony, 37, appeared in court alongside Themba Sibanda, 26, Tendai Shumba, 43, Kennedy Simbanegavi, 37, and Cosmas Muzanzi, 41. The five were charged with contravening Section 157(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23] which criminalises possession of dangerous drugs.
All five men pleaded guilty at the commencement of the trial. The court consequently returned a guilty verdict and fined each of them US$200. Magistrate Ranga Jere said failure to pay the fine would attract a four-month prison term, although three months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition that the accused do not commit a similar offence.
The state alleged that the incident took place on January 5, 2026, at a house in Highfields where the five men stay. Prosecutors told the court that at about 6.30PM, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit were conducting follow-up investigations in the area when they noticed the men standing near a parked Mercedes-Benz vehicle smoking what was later confirmed as cannabis.
