Music producer, DJ and Bulawayo cultural icon Slimzar Wa Afrika has announced the launch of the Slimzar Wa Afrika Foundation, a philanthropic initiative aimed at empowering underprivileged children and young people through technology, the arts and social support. The foundation is focused on ensuring that disadvantaged youth are not excluded from global developments, combining community-based support with modern skills training. According to the press statement, the initiative is “dedicated to ensuring that underprivileged children and youth are fully integrated into global developments through a unique blend of traditional support and modern skill acquisition.” Slimzar Wa Afrika said the foundation was designed in response to widening digital and social inequalities.

“The foundation aims to bridge the digital and social divide by providing the less privileged with access to high level skills and career guidance and emerging technologies,” the statement said. The Slimzar Wa Afrika Foundation will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to youth development, focusing on both skills training and social welfare. One of the key pillars is digital skills development.

The foundation will provide training in coding, artificial intelligence and digital literacy to ensure young people are equipped to participate in a rapidly changing global economy. “Recognising the rapid pace of global progress, Slimzar Wa Afrika has designed a curriculum and support system that ensures no child is left behind due to their background or economic status,” the statement said. The foundation will also support creative arts development through professional music skills training and mentorship for aspiring artists.

Climate change awareness and environmental action form another central pillar. The foundation plans to host annual Climate Change Awareness Weeks, featuring tree planting initiatives, arts competitions focused on environmental themes, and advocacy talks aimed at nurturing eco-conscious leaders. Beyond skills development, the foundation will provide social welfare support, including meals, sanitary wear, clothing, winter blanket drives, and anti-drug and substance abuse campaigns.
