Brandon Moyo at Barbourfields StadiumHighlanders 1-1 Ngezi Platinum StarsA REASON Sibanda header deep into the second half helped Highlanders salvage a point in a league encounter against Ngezi Platinum Stars on Sunday afternoon.Sibanda equalised for Bosso in the 79th minute after Tinashe Muvhudzi had put the former champions in front in the 25th minute. The Madamburo winger capitalised on a defensive error from Arthur Ndlovu to punish the Bulawayo giants. In a bid to clear, the Bosso central defender hit the ball onto the path of Gomezagni Chirwa who in turn laid the ball to Mavhudzi who calmly slotted home from close range to put Madamburo in front.Having struggled throughout the match to beat the Ngezi shot-stopper Darlington Murasirwana, Sibanda received a perfect cross fromthe left flank, putting his diving effort on the near post to draw Bosso level. The struggling Bulawayo giants would, however, feel they should have walked away with maximum points had they converted their chances. The first shot on target came in the ninth minute, when Never Rauzhi took a shot from outside the box but his low effort was easily collected by Murasiranwa. In the 21st minute, the hosts got yet another chance when Melikhaya Ncube laid the ball onto Malvern Hativagoni who unleashed a shot from distance but was, once again, easily dealt with by Murasiranwa. Two minutes later, Bosso came close to breaking the deadlock when a Mason Mushore corner kick was met by a an equally brilliant Rauzhi header which, unfortunately, went just wide of goal.In the 37th minute, Bosso got a freekick in a promising position. Mushore stood behind the ball but his effort was headed away for a corner kick by the Ngezi Platinum wall.Moments later, Bosso came close to leveling matters when Melikhaya Ncube unleashed a thunder strike from inside the box only to be denied by the woodwork. Mushore could not deal with the rebound. At the stroke of half time, Bosso came close again through Panashe Mushonga whose volley from inside the box was punched away for a corner kick by Murasiranwa who has been brilliant in goals for Madumburo.Just after the hour mark, Brighton Ncube laid a pass onto Mushore whose weak effort was saved by Murasiranwa.
With 16 minutes left on the clock, second half substitute Tendai Muvuti sent in a brilliant cross from the right side which met an unmarked Mushore in the box. The midfielder’s effort was saved by Murasiranwa.Moments later, Hativagoni unleashed yet another long range shot only to be denied by the woodwork.
