Much is said and written in the media about the prognosis of the nation in 2026. But the spiritual wellbeing of our society is mostly ignored. Yet it is salutary to recognise that both Testaments of the Bible carry recurrent and powerful warnings that any nation will very soon be in trouble if it turns its back on Father God and ignores his revealed law and way.
The rule of law is God’s idea. The trouble looks like this: The worship of idols (include money, power, possessions, godless ideologies, etc.) has people serving created things instead of the creator. Truth and authority stumble in the market place.
That puts so many societies on an ethical slide. Sexual ethics and mores can become twisted and minds depraved. This provides good ground for the break up of the family and the destruction of reverence of personhood.

Prideful, self-centred arrogance opens the way for envy, strife, murder, deceit and malice; corruption, theft, oppression of the poor; racism, prejudice and hatred. All stuff that is the origin of our national pain and perplexity. The answer?
The Bible calls it repentance. Acknowledge the mess and its cause. Turn for help and forgiveness to our Holy God who has already made provision to forgive and heal us, and enable us to prosper through the life and death of Jesus, our redeemer, if we will turn.
