The Road Development Agency (RDA) in Western Province has opened up a 26.5 kilometers stretch of the road in the ongoing rehabilitation of Tateyoyo-Katunda road situated along Mongu -Lusaka road. Western Province Minister, Kapelwa Mbangweta, who inspected the roadworks yesterday expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. Mr Mbangweta lauded the efforts of the contractors, saying the opened section is a testament of the Government’s commitment to improving the road infrastructure in the province.
“This progress is encouraging and demonstrates the Government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure in Western Province, “The opening of this section is already improving connectivity and supporting economic activities for our people, “he added. The Minister noted that the project is a critical component of the Government’s efforts to upgrade the country’s road network and boost economic growth. Mr Mbangweta urged communities to take advantage of the improved road infrastructure to engage in economic activities, saying the government is committed to supporting their efforts.
The project involves the rehabilitation of approximately 87.3 kilometers of the road, with a revised contract sum of K1.56 Billion and the project is expected to be completed by December 2026. According to RDA Western Province Road Engineer Moses Chitambala, the rehabilitation works are being carried out under challenging conditions, with the road traversing through difficult terrain. Mr Chitambala said the agency is confident that the project will be completed on time and to the required standards.
