As worries over unpaid Learning and Teacher Support Materials (LTSM) continued to mount, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education (DoE) have announced that it has resumed delivery of outstanding LTSM to schools with immediate effect. Towards the end of last year, teachers, principals, and unions warned that many schools could be ill-equipped to start the school year on January 14 if LTSM payments were not delivered. “Following a MEC Management Meeting (MMM) held on Monday, the Department has resumed the delivery of the remaining Learning and Teaching Support Materials (LTSM) to schools with immediate effect,” said the department’s spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi.
He said the urgent intervention took place as the department wants a smooth start to the 2026 schooling year. KZN education MEC Sipho Hlomuka said the department is committed to ensuring stability, operational readiness, and effective service delivery across public schools this year. We want to reassure parents, learners, educators, teacher unions, and stakeholders that there will be a well-coordinated and successful start to the 2026 school year.” Mahlambi added that all systems are in place for the official release of the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results. On Monday, Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka was briefed on the readiness for the release of results, and he, along with KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, will announce the results on Tuesday, January 13, Mahlambi said.
