Crime & CourtNewsBy Nigel PfundeGuruve — A 31-year-old Guruve man suspected of being behind a series of brutal murders in Mashonaland Central has been formally charged and remanded in custody as investigations into at least 15 homicide cases continue.Anymore Zvitsva appeared before Harare magistrate Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe on Tuesday, where he was remanded to January 19 while receiving treatment under guard at a local hospital.He faces multiple charges including murder, attempted murder and two counts of rape.The court heard that Zvitsva is linked to a string of violent crimes committed between March 2024 and December 2025 in Guruve and Mvurwi districts where he targeted mainly women and families in rural communities.According to court papers, on March 6 2024, Zvitsva allegedly forced entry into the home of Jane Dube in Rangwani village, Chief Chipuriro, Guruve where he assaulted her with an iron rod resulting in her death.Her body was later found in a maize field.In a separate incident in April 2024, Zvitsva is alleged to have abducted Modester Isaac from Nyakapupu area, raped her in a gum plantation and strangled her with wire and later hung her body from a tree.Her remains were discovered days later following a search by villagers.The court further heard that on October 7 2024, Alice Marangarire was allegedly strangled with wire in Mvurwi after being confronted while looking for cattle. Her body was recovered the following day.Prosecutors also outlined incidents in which Zvitsva allegedly killed multiple victims in coordinated attacks, including the murder of Elisha Dickens Chikwavarara and Dudzai Mazuvaawanda in Mubaiwa village, Guruve and the killing of several members of the same household in December last year using knives, spears and snare wire.In another incident on December 9, 2025 Zvitsva is accused of killing three people at a homestead in Zimuna village before abducting and raping another victim whom he allegedly murdered the following day and buried in Nyakapupu Mountain.The State alleges that Zvitsva used weapons such as knives, machetes, spears and snare wire in carrying out the attacks.
