HARARE — Anymore Zvitsva, wanted in connection with the killing of five members of his family in Guruve, was arrested on Saturday after he was shot in the leg while hiding in a garden, police said. Zvitsva was found by a joint team of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe National Army, bringing to an end a dramatic manhunt that began after five bodies were discovered at his aunt’s home at Plot 9, Ona Farm, on December 11. Police had earlier offered a substantial cash reward for information leading to his arrest, as security forces intensified operations across Guruve and surrounding areas amid widespread fear in the community.
Following his arrest, Zvitsva was taken to Bindura Hospital for treatment before being flown to Harare aboard an army aircraft. Zvitsva is expected to appear in court on Monday, when prosecutors are set to outline the full charges he faces. Police have previously linked him to three other murder cases in the area, although investigations are still ongoing.
He alleged that the killings were triggered by a dispute with his aunt, whom he accused of repeatedly “talking about” him. Police have not commented on the claims made in the video. Authorities identified Zvitsva’s deceased relatives as Grace Zvitsva, Loice Chiringaushe, Takudzwa Kariva, Tatenda Chirenje and Tendai Zvitsva. Police have also raised concerns about Zvitsva’s mental state, and he is expected to undergo psychiatric evaluation following his initial court appearance.
