uMgungundlovu District Municipality Mayor Mzi Zuma brought relief to six indigent families in Msunduzi, whose homes were badly damaged by recent summer rains. According to the uMgungundlovu Municipality, Zuma visited the Gumede, Zulu, Hlongwane, Mnguni, Sibiya and Masondo households in Ward 20, where he handed over Christmas grocery parcels and blankets to assist families struggling in the aftermath of the storms. The mayor was accompanied by the manager in his office, Mbulelo Sibiya; uMgungundlovu’s head of disaster management, Mthokozisi Mthembu, and Msunduzi Ward 20 councillor.
During the visit, Zuma said a detailed report would be compiled on the extent of the damage in the ward and submitted to relevant government departments, including Human Settlements, to secure further assistance. He said support would be provided in phases, starting with temporary relief measures such as transitional shelters, while processes for permanent, subsidised housing were pursued. Zuma added that the affected families would receive government intervention to improve their living conditions.
