Thursday 31 July 2025Venus CharumbiraEnvironment and Health Reporter Health experts have raised concerns over children’s growing addiction to salty foods, which can lead to unhealthy cravings and long-term health problems. Dr. Mary Nyathi, a leading health specialist, warned that excessive salt intake in children can trigger hypertension and other health complications.
“Many children are now used to salty foods, which creates cravings and increases their risk of developing high blood pressure,” said Dr. Nyathi. Another alarming practice highlighted by experts is the habit of some mothers and grandmothers giving children cooking oil to drink, unaware of its dangers.
Dr. Nyathi strongly cautioned against this, stating that consuming cooking oil can cause severe and persistent chest infections.
